The Virginia Crime Stoppers Association, Inc. is an alliance of local Crime Stoppers, Crime Solvers and Crime Line programs. The VCSA offers training conferences to assist in the formation of a new local program, and to provide mutual assistance to existing programs.
Since 1983, the VCSA has grown from six programs in the greater Richmond area to over 56 programs throughout the state. Training conferences, hosted by a local programs, are held once each year.
Of the 95 counties in Virginia, 57 are involved with a Crime Stopper program, and 12 independent cities have a Crime Stopper program. Crime Stopper programs now serve 85% of Virginia's population. Virginia's Crime Stopper programs make up 5.5% of the 1,017 known programs in the United States, and 4.7% of 1,200 known programs world-wide.
The VCSA works because its member programs work! Large or small, every member program provides valuable information that helps another local program. The dedication of each of the civilian board members, police/sheriff's coordinators, and the willingness of the media to carry the Crime Stoppers message are what makes Crime Stoppers, Crime Solvers and Crime Lines so successful !
