Virginia Crime Stoppers Training Institute PRESS RELEASE 31 March 2007 SEAFORD, VA. – Virginia Crime Stoppers Association President, Fred Kern announced today the formation of a new arm of the VCSA that is designed to further aid and promote crime fighting efforts across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The new effort is a non-profit, non-stock, charitable Virginia corporation, the Virginia Crime Stoppers Training Institute, Inc.
The VCSTI has been formed to expand Crime Stopper training and direct support to the more than 53 Crime Stopper, Crime Solver and Crime Line programs in Virginia.
The VCSTI will use in-house and guest experts in fund raising, marketing, promotions, tips management, civilian board recruitment and retention, media relations and other C/S operations to teach innovative along with time proven techniques and procedures to civilian C/S programs, school based C/S programs and law enforcement agencies.
Crime Stoppers, Crime Solvers and Crime Line programs are non-profit corporations dedicated to assisting local law enforcement arrest criminals through the use cash rewards for anonymous tips. The VCSA is the State-wide umbrella organization formed in 1983 to support local programs with training, networking and legal issues.
The VCSTI is the newest part of the ongoing effort by the totally volunteer Board of Directors of the VCSA to improve the living conditions in our communities. The VCSTI will allow for individual donors and corporations to claim their contributions to the VCSTI as a tax deduction. In addition, once federal tax exempt status under IRS code 501(c)(3) is obtained, the VCSTI will be able to apply for and use state and federal grants for educational purposes.
Crime Stoppers programs are in all fifty states and many foreign countries. The first program in Virginia was in Fairfax County in 1978. All Crime Stopper programs’ boards of directors are volunteers, accepting no money for the hard work.
